They made optical drives for PCs. They were considered the best of the best if you wanted to rip your movies. This will be a huge loss.

“No more pioneering.”

It was not about the (Ultra HD) Blu-ray Disc hardware business. It was about the business of optical disc drives for PCs – ODDs that can read and write (or ‘burn’) formats including CD-R/RW, DVD±R/RW, BD-R, and BD-RE, as well as BDXL. And in some cases also read BD-ROM 3.0 discs, commonly known as Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Okay I was worried for the DJ scene for a second, CDJs still get a lot of use

Not good, but understandable. I'm concerned that we're going to end up in the situation where it will be impossible to get a BD drive for a PC.

I am sad about this, but considering what a pile of junk my pioneer is, I could be sadder.
I replaced it with a non-name version for $30 that's done a LOT better.
