Hi All
How do you all manage your music playlists? I am on Linux selfhosted server
I find JF great for movies/TV but a bit of a nightmare for music. Its not easy to just add music to a playlist.
I use finamp to play on my phone, I am not attached to it TBH, I could change player.
Is there any suggested ways of easily creating playlists, its for randoms, say i want a bunch of 80s songs for example from my library. I heard of a plugin called smartlists but I cant find it
I WILL MOVE THIS ACROSS TO SELFHOSTING- thanks all.

we dont use jellyfin for music… www.navidrome.org
edit: i just realized i am in the jellyfin community amd not selfhosted but my answer doesnt change. there isnt one app to do everything well.
so i will be removing my muisc library from jF? and installing navidrome as the manager?
yes. i love jellyfin but it is not good at music.
Agreed 100%. Jellyfin is great for watchable media but it just doesnt work well with music libraries and its metadata. Navidrome is the way. Feishin is probably the best and most preferred client for Navidrome on desktop. And theres tons of clients for mobile whether youre on Android or iOS.
that looks quite nice…but i am apple (for now…i know) i do find JF awkward with music, i have lots of randoms rather than full albums, i keep setting metadat for example images and it just switches the info out.

Smartlists is great for rule-based playlists.
AudioMuse-AI analyses the sound, for something a bit more dynamic.
There was also a BetterLists plugin but I dont think its actively maintained.
Works perfectly well for me with a Jellyfin server and Symfonium app on Android. Playlists sync fine and you can edit them on the phone.
I use JF for music, I have a big library (16k songs, some are sorted by album (one folder by album with songs inside) and some are sorted by genre (one folder by genre), all folder are treated as album, which is fine with me.
Then, I often play songs at random, and sometimes I add some songs to playlists ive created. I also use finamp
However, Jellyfin has a BIG performance issue with music… This will be mostly fixed in the next big release, but in the meantime, loading and playing songs takes a long time… I go around this with Finamp.offline mode and having downloaded songs on my phones beforehand.
