Wait is Dobbi the real hero of Harry Potter?

MsPenguinette@lemmy.world on 18 Nov 16:46 next collapse

The house elves yearning for subjugation means that Dobbi is likely seen as a villain

TheDoozer@lemmy.world on 18 Nov 19:10 collapse

Yeah, I always have a tough time telling if Kreacher was an Uncle Ruckus or if Dobby was a traitor and deviant to his people.

Like, we think of it as Dobby (or any House Elf) being released from slavery, but I wonder if it is more like being a Ronin.

It’s supposed to be a commentary on internalized racism and cultural inertia but, because Rowling is a bit of a goof, she made it sound like racial essentialism instead.

Hermione and Dobby are not the weirdos, society is.

Master gave us a ring!

One Ring has ADHD.

SARGE@startrek.website on 18 Nov 18:49 next collapse

It was forged by a being that was super old and didn’t have any death on the horizon like mortals have, and had cruelty, malice, and a will to dominate all life poured into it by another nearly-immortal being. It sat for two and a half thousand years doing diddly squat, passing out of all knowledge.

My point is, it’s patient.

What’s 500 years when compared with eternity?

WillBalls@lemmy.world on 18 Nov 19:14 next collapse

Maybe I’m reading this wrong, but it sounds like you’re saying Celebrimbor forged the one ring, and Sauron poured his malice into it. That’s incorrect: the one was Sauron’s creation, which he made using the knowledge he gained from assisting in the forging of the seven and the nine.

SARGE@startrek.website on 18 Nov 20:35 collapse

Brain fart! You are correct, I was thinking Celebrimbor forged the One Ring with Sauron.

Guess that just mean it’s time to reread. Oh noooooooooo

Came here to ask about this, I should have figured someone would have already given an explanation in the comments.

Not sure if it’s accurate but I assume the hobbits’ resistance to the ring’s power might have slowed this down too.
