Pooh/Frodo is the more adventurous type and Piglet/Samwise is the loyal tag along. Plus think of scenes like Samwise chasing after Frodo as he crosses the river. Pooh would be the one trying to adventure off and the nervous Piglet chasing after. Or Piglet carrying Pooh into Mount Doom.

True, in terms of their personalities, that is probably the better match. But in terms of physical stature, Piglet carrying Pooh up the slopes of Orodruin is a rather silly mental image.

Silly… Or heroic? It’s exactly why it works. You look at Piglet and know, definitely, there is no way that tiny little pig can carry that giant yellow bear. And yet. Heroes.

Y’know, maybe you’re right. I just watched RotK this evening, and I think that if the buildup were to be executed competently, the emotional payoff could be enough for me to suspend my disbelief enough for the “Piglet carrying Pooh” scene to “work”. I’d love to watch this.

I would watch the hell out of this. Extended edition, of course.
The original A. A. Milne characters are public domain*, so there isn’t much preventing someone from making and distributing this.
*or soon to be, depending on location
So Tigger is Frodo in this scenario? I love Tigger, but he wouldn’t have been my first choice.
I think I might go with:
I’d swap Pooh/Samwise and Piglet/Frodo.

Not A. A. Milne canon (thus copyright issues), but he’d be a perfect Gimli.
