And thanks to apsidal precession we’re not even in the “same” spot, even relative to the sun (which, of course, is itself moving)!

Woo!

The Sun thinks it’s smart, but it never discovered alc. What a shame.

cringe nihilism, things have meaning because we give it to them

Life is arbitrary. If you’re not using that for your own enjoyment, you’re missing out.

It reminds me of people who look at literally anything and say “what’s the point?”

You don’t need some grand practical purpose to have fun and enjoy things

Life is arbitrary. If you’re not using that for your own enjoyment, you’re missing out.

While we must also strive to ensure a future where ideally everyone can partake in such leisurely enjoyments. Otherwise it’s just hedonism which isn’t virtuous.

Excuse me.

Some of us have chronic depression, and are unable to find enjoyment. So we get to always miss out, exacerbating the condition.

Thank you very much!

Happy new year!

From what I can tell, it’s likely based on the Christian holiday, Christmas, which is probably a religious version of the Winter solstice. So not totally arbitrary.

it’s not completely arbitrary

it’s intentionally close to the winter solstice

but a little bit later because … reasons

I’ve been saying this almost my entire life and people think I’m just bitter, confrontational, and a party pooper.

Just let people have fun. I don’t celebrate or care the least about the new year but the people who do aren’t hurting anyone and it makes them happy. I’ve seen so many posts calling them stupid. If you don’t care, then don’t care. Being a dick to them is just mean and stupid.

NO FUN ALLOWED

I just find it repetitive.

It’s always fireworks every year, can’t we have some new way to celebrate? Synchronised drones seemed promising.
