Has anyone used Nym VPN?

Has anyone tried Nym VPN? I know it’s different from Mullvad VPN, Proton VPN, and IVPN as it’s decentalized, but aside from that, what else makes it stand out from the others? It looks interesting and was thinking about trying it out, but I know it’s a newer VPN and I haven’t been able to find reviews about it and wanted to see if it’s even worth it.

The provenance and concept look fine; the claim to be the first decentralized VPN rings a bit hollow when TOR predates it by decades. That in itself makes me question the other claims more than I would if they just stuck to “properly decentralized” or similar. Celebrity sponsorship also rings warning bells for me.

But then, using a VPN for privacy purposes seems odd to me too — unless you own both ends of the tunnel.

You know what rings warning bells for me? When someone calls Tor a VPN.

That’s fine; in my mind, a VPN is a fully encrypted link between two private points, often routed over the Internet. These exit proxies being discussed in this thread are no more VPNs than TOR (which at least has the option to stay within its network). But since in this context, everyone is calling exit proxies VPNs, I met them where they were.

There are several inaccuracies in both of your comments. Please try to avoid using common networking terms incorrectly—e.g., a VPN is more than ‘a fully encrypted link between two private points,’ and Tor is not a VPN. Misstating these concepts can spread confusion, so if you’re unsure, please research before commenting.

It does look suspicious with some of their claims. I’ll just stay away from them for now.

So it’s TOR but built using wireguard and an attached crypto wallet?

No.

Still don’t get any everyone likes to pay for honeypots

Yes, wouldn’t recommend it yet. Very unstable and buggy experience.

Ok. I’ll stick with the others. Thanks.

I’ve tried it. It’s very slow. The app on iOS has two “modes” to choose from when connecting. One is labelled “Fast (Wireguard)” and the other is labelled “Anonymous (Mixnet)”. The “Fast” mode is still two hops so it takes forever to establish a connection. You get to choose the entry and exit nodes though. The “Mixnet” is 5 hops. Slow af. Barely useable at all.
