Yeah, I kinda am on the same page as you but I do think modern judginess in contexts like this can get to be too much. Practically none of the language changes proposed really bother me, after at least a little time to think about them, I just get a little annoyed when some of the more benign ones seem to be pushed as similar to the other more terrible ones. An example would be “master bedroom”. Basically no one would ever naturally think of that as racist or of a racist origin, though it probably is a relic of the slavery era. So while I think it’s good to try and move away from the term, if someone told me I shouldn’t say it in conversation, I wouldn’t find it helpful and I would find it annoying. I think there should be priorities because people do have limited brain space for new replacement terms. I could probably list 20 words that have become unusable in my lifetime so far, and I have no issue with basically all of them, but if every time I say one of the more engrained, less harmful ones, I’m told I shouldn’t say it, my human reaction is to get annoyed. If you had approached it a little more softly here I don’t think I’d mind at all. Like “Just so you know, this term has origins in being derogatory to Asians” for example. Starting off with “don’t say that” without explanation hits much differently imo. So it’s partially about priorities and partially about approach for me.
