Where do you think we are right now?

kingofras@lemmy.world on 29 Jan 16:14 collapse

There is a post about the 2.5 release posted 6h before this OP. People upvote both. Fine my me. More exposure = more donations I hope

bigfish@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 29 Jan 07:37 next collapse

And some basic image editing! At last

gblues@lemmy.zip on 29 Jan 13:57 collapse

Halleluia!

tserts@lemmy.tserts.com on 29 Jan 11:24 next collapse

Has anyone pulled it yet? Is it stable? I use the (internet) scream test, if no drama follows the release for a few days, then i proceed with the pull.

seang96@spgrn.com on 29 Jan 12:34 next collapse

v2.5.2 is planned to release today, they pulled v2.5.0 android apk since there was a bug with it. So I’d suggest waiting for the release today at least.

imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 30 Jan 07:59 collapse

It’s out. Autoupdated off the market. No issues so far for me.

seang96@spgrn.com on 30 Jan 22:02 collapse

Yeah I updated too don’t auto update but I have renovate monitor updates and submit PRs for it. All running good here.

tserts@lemmy.tserts.com on 29 Jan 12:51 next collapse

Just checked, there is an issue with the companion app on playstore, they have delayed the android app update due to an issue, so wait until play store shows the update and then do both (server and mobile app)

mortalic@lemmy.world on 29 Jan 15:18 next collapse

I updated my image yesterday and haven’t run into any issues. I also haven’t tried the web backups yet. Soooo 🤷

eli@lemmy.world on 29 Jan 17:49 next collapse

I really want to use Immich but I’ve installed it 3 different times and each time an upgrade completely breaks my installation and I spend hours troubleshooting. And yes, I read the patch notes and do whatever changes they mark in bold red as a warning.

It’s amazing when it works and they’re doing a great job at adding features, but my God does it break if you just look at it wrong.

Darkness343@lemmy.world on 30 Jan 03:18 next collapse

In my case, the only thing that ever broke in my home server was homarr lol

Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 30 Jan 07:23 next collapse

Never had it break my setup.
And I have ACLs running on the filesystem on top of it.

Scrollone@feddit.it on 30 Jan 07:25 collapse

How long ago did you do it?

Now Immich is considered stable, so it shouldn’t have breaking minor updates anymore.

Plus, if you use the docker installation you pretty much don’t have to worry about anything.

eli@lemmy.world on 30 Jan 07:59 collapse

Going back through my github issues/comments, it was around May 2024 with the v1.105.0 release was my last attempt.

I’m happy to hear it is stable now, I’ll probably give it a shot again here soon. Again, I loved the app and I was hosting it for friends/family to share photos of my kids, so it helped immensely with everyone collaborating with uploads(though mobile uploads for individual photos wasn’t available at that time, had to direct people to use the website…).

To be fair I don’t think I used the docker installation back then, so I’ll probably make a stack for it this time around.

Scrollone@feddit.it on 30 Jan 11:49 next collapse

I had never used Docker before, but it’s pretty easy. Give it a try again!

HereIAm@lemmy.world on 30 Jan 12:18 collapse

With their 2.0 version they announced it as stable release. github.com/immich-app/immich/discussions/22546

I never used immich before then, but all updates I’ve done since starting (with docker) has worked flawlessly.

superglue@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 29 Jan 21:22 collapse

Looks like mine auto updated already and it seems fine

Flamekebab@piefed.social on 29 Jan 11:24 next collapse

Nice! I’ll update my container and give it a go.

gblues@lemmy.zip on 29 Jan 13:56 next collapse

Gonna wait to update my podman instance. I’d like immich to have a better mamagement in a multiuser enviroment. I have my wife and kids phones sending photos to it, but I’d like to edit or exclude images from their accounts from mine.

iamthetot@piefed.ca on 29 Jan 15:27 next collapse

What do you mean? My partner and I use the same Immich server, but I don’t see her photos unless they are explicitly shared.

CallMeMrFlipper@lemmy.world on 29 Jan 17:21 next collapse

Can you clarify? I have several family members with accounts and we don’t see each others pictures. Are you uploading to a shared album?

gblues@lemmy.zip on 29 Jan 19:52 collapse

@CallMeMrFlipper@lemmy.world and @iamthetot@piefed.ca I used a setting on immich called “partner sharing” or something like it (my immich instance is on ptBR). If I’m not mistaken, it was on my account settings. There I can mark an option to my partners photos be shown on my timeline. There’s something That I have to do on looged on their accounts as well, but I can’t quite remeber it now.

Edit: Just update my instance now and everything is apparently running fine.

5PACEBAR@piefed.ca on 29 Jan 15:05 next collapse

The official release notes are way better than this article https://github.com/immich-app/immich/releases/tag/v2.5.0

Everyday0764@lemmy.zip on 30 Jan 23:06 collapse

yeah they could have put just the link… thank you

Kirk@startrek.website on 29 Jan 19:26 next collapse

I can’t find anything about the web backups in the article or release notes.

otters_raft@lemmy.ca on 29 Jan 23:09 collapse

It might be this bit

On top of that, backup and restore functionality is now fully supported in the web interface. Users can restore database backups directly from the Immich UI, either through the administration maintenance page or during onboarding of a new instance.

Kirk@startrek.website on 29 Jan 23:45 collapse

Yeah I saw that… not really what I would consider a “web backup” exactly. I was hoping they were rolling out encrypted photo storage plans.

Scrollone@feddit.it on 30 Jan 07:23 collapse

I was hoping even something else: making a backup copy of my database on an external service such as S3.

Squizzy@lemmy.world on 29 Jan 23:44 next collapse

How simple is this program to use, I am moving to linux and while novie just want to start using my pc for pc things like storing my pictures.

ohshit604@sh.itjust.works on 30 Jan 04:30 next collapse

This software is more meant to be ran in a server environment, it’s suppose to be a replacement to subscription based photo/video cloud storage. I would not recommend you run this on a desktop you use daily as it’ll consume resources in the background slowing your desktop down, this is kinda why NAS storage systems exist.

Once you get a grasp on the BASH shell I would suggest playing around with docker and docker compose in a headless environment (headless = no desktop environment, shell only) as there are loads of applications you can self-host over your network.

BCsven@lemmy.ca on 30 Jan 05:43 next collapse

There are docker script and docker compose installs. It was basically reading the documents and Editting a few text files and launching it in docker. Hardest part I found was the face tagging, it was totally counter intuitive to assign a face and persons name. Like almost obfuscated. Once you set that up though it just does its thing superbly well

NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip on 30 Jan 07:38 collapse

If you are talking about using Linux on a desktop, then use DigiKam for photo management. It is far more advanced, because it is a desktop application and been around a lot longer.

You could have a workflow of a desktop environment AND immich on the server for the best of what they both offer.

anon_8675309@lemmy.world on 30 Jan 01:56 next collapse

Have they implemented the new api from Apple that lets them do background backup like Photos does?

onlyhalfminotaur@lemmy.world on 30 Jan 02:47 next collapse

These madlads are making better free software than anyone is making for $ these days.

PlutoniumAcid@lemmy.world on 30 Jan 06:43 next collapse

This release also brings you […] a new font face (“The-name-must-not-be-named” Sans) that improves reading legibility, especially for numbers and smaller text

What’s the story about that font name? I’m out of the loop.

WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works on 30 Jan 07:18 next collapse

I guess it’s just google sans, they use this placeholder elsewhere too

Scrollone@feddit.it on 30 Jan 07:22 collapse

It’s a running meme on their website. They don’t want to name Google, so they call it that way.

So the font must be Google Sans.

Mailloche@lemmy.ca on 30 Jan 13:37 collapse

That’s how I call my ex wife.

ABasilPlant@lemmy.world on 30 Jan 10:49 next collapse

Just purchased a server license (for life). Not only is this update jam packed full of nice features, but a lot of their updates are. I’ve been self-hosting it (on a VPS) for the past year and it’s about time I supported them

xistera@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 30 Jan 23:24 next collapse

Yesss I’ve been wanting the clean up space feature ever since I left Google Photos. I need to remember to donate next time I get paid.

MonkeMischief@lemmy.today on 31 Jan 06:21 collapse

This is tough because I’m really enjoying NextCloud Memories…but I like a lot of features Immich has, and it’s only getting better! But so is Memories…

I’m just glad there’s so many “Get lost and lose my number, Google” options. <3
