CookTrace is a self-hosted recipe manager (Docker + Android, AGPL-3.0). rc.3 is the next public roll-up, bundling everything since the rc.1 first public release plus the rc.2 patches in between.

What is CookTrace?

Self-hosted recipe manager. Full recipe library with live scaling, ingredient unit conversion, FDA-style Nutrition Facts, cook mode, and cook log. Pantry catalog with barcode scanning (ML Kit on Android, QuaggaJS on web), Open Food Facts + USDA lookup, variants, expiration dates, and an “8/10 in pantry” match pill on every recipe card. Cook diary + meal planner with list and month-calendar views. Shopping list that pulls missing ingredients from a recipe and skips anything you already have stocked. Trace AI assistant (Claude / OpenAI / Gemini / Ollama). Multi-user with OIDC SSO. Federation with NutriTrace (nutrition) and LiftTrace (lifting). Docker on the server, Capacitor app on Android. AGPL-3.0 licensed.

“AI” is a tool that is clearly here to stay. They seem to be working within the rules of the community and are transparent in their use of AI tools. You’re free to build something similar in a manner that suits you. Until then, this does what I need it to do in a manner that I’m able to host myself. Just calling everything slop that uses AI tools is unhelpful. Really unhelpful comment.

Just deployed Cooktrace, set it up on the ol’ dashboard. Went off without a hitch. I’ll run it through it’s paces tomorrow sometime. I did go ahead and import a recipe from allrecipes.com. Had no issues importing, and it even imported the video if I want to watch them make lasagna. LOL Nice!

Thanks for giving it a chance. Alot of time, effort, and testing went into this self hosted app. I am a longtime Mealie user and though its an absolutely great recipe manager, there were a few more things i wanted to see in an app like this, and thus CookTrace was born. Feel free to report any bugs or feature requests on the github page.
