This questions goes to the immich-wise people around here.
I have just some pics from my wife’s google phoots that I want to import on our immich account. What’s the best way to bring it with the correct metadata? Just save locally onthe desktop than import into immich?
another doubt is how adequately import old scanned photos on immich. I have scanne some thru an self-loader scanner. they are somewhat bent, in the wrong direction and need cropping and other minor adjusts. Would be better to make this on the desktop with some tool and than import to immich OR import everything in the way they are and then edit them inside immich?

Use this tool for importing a Google takeout file. Follow the examples for Google photos.
github.com/simulot/immich-go/blob/…/examples.md#g…
I also did it with this.
While you can change it afterwards, it might be worthwhile to check a setting in immich on how it organizes the photos on disk you upload.
I changed it to year/month/photo-id because I find it convenient, but it does not organized them like that for backups.
You can change it at a later date and run a job to “fix it”, but it might be worthwhile to set it up correctly from the start ( if this matters to you ). So no harm done if you change your mind later.
Yes, there are a couple import tools for Google Takeout, and you should absolutely use one. I don’t recall if I used this particular tool, but it is strictly necessary to get a clean import.
Other examples:
Google Photos Takeout Helper - Readme includes detailed step by step instructions.
Takeout Helper Neo - a fork of the above with additional features
Photo Migrator - designed to work with multiple services
I used this a few months ago and it worked fantastically, uploaded like 800G worth of photos!
Use the takeout as already mentioned for the google stuff.
For editing, I’d really recommend doing it outside immich first. I happen to like using darktable + krita for my workflow, though thats mostly DSLR not scanned.
.
I like to sort, crop, add comments etc beforehand, I also prefer to separate the wheat from the chaff for upload to Immich rather than uploading everything carte blanche.
As someone else mentioned it’s a good idea to set up your Immich template at the beginning if folder organisation is important to you
I never got this template thing well done :(
I struggled with everything else and had to use exiftool to get things working
