Sounds solid. People’s priorities change.

HappyFrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 21 Jul 08:58 next collapse

I always find the phrasing of “effective immediately…” to sound a bit hostile, but I hope the transition is smooth.

glitch1985@lemmy.world on 21 Jul 10:54 next collapse

Slightly better “this happened weeks ago but we’re just now getting around to updating everyone”.

Lenna@piefed.ca on 21 Jul 11:49 collapse

And that’s slightly better than “this happened weeks ago but we’re just now getting around to updating everyone because we were trying to hide the fact that we had a leadership change”.

aeronmelon@lemmy.world on 21 Jul 13:56 collapse

“Effective immediately.” = Hostile, forceful.

“Effective yesterday.” = Mysterious, invites questions, makes you sound like a time-traveler.

vividspecter@aussie.zone on 22 Jul 08:55 collapse

Effective as of the end of this sentence. This sentence I’m speaking right now. Period.

turdburglar@piefed.social on 21 Jul 10:18 next collapse

this one’s got me nervous, yall

louloukoutsis@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 21 Jul 10:37 next collapse

Sounds like the rest of the team will continue so it should be similar? Seems like they just didn’t have the time anymore due to other life commitments.

turdburglar@piefed.social on 21 Jul 22:09 collapse

i mean, i have all my fingers crossed.

lka1988@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 21 Jul 15:39 collapse

The linked post is fairly positive. I’m not too worried - we’re probably gonna see an uptick in user friendliness.

A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip on 21 Jul 11:16 next collapse

I never understood why they don’t support the subsonic protocol.
Also, there’s no native Jellyfin app for my phone.
In the end I changed to Navidrome and use it with a subsonic-compatible app.

Also, my server is still PHP-free and I’d like to keep it that way.

doeknius_gloek@discuss.tchncs.de on 21 Jul 11:36 next collapse

Jellyfin is written in C#.

A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip on 21 Jul 11:43 collapse

Huh. yeah, no PHP anywhere. Sorry, no idea where that came from.

curbstickle@anarchist.nexus on 21 Jul 11:57 next collapse

What phone do you have that the jellyfin app and the jellyamp app are unavailable?

Edit: Also you can support subsonic with jellysub acting as a go-between. Considering its not a music-first solution, I’m not surprised that it doesn’t support subsonic natively, personally.

Edit 2: Its unmaintained but works as of the last time I tried it out, fwiw. It isnt exactly a complex codebase either if something got tripped up by minor changes.

A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip on 21 Jul 12:54 next collapse

Thanks but I’m happy with Navidrome.

curbstickle@anarchist.nexus on 21 Jul 13:02 collapse

Perfectly fine, doesn’t change my question or that others may benefit from being aware.

Tango@piefed.ca on 21 Jul 18:11 collapse

Not the person you’re responding to but if I wanted to turn an old Asus MeMO Pad 7 into something I could stream from my PC with, would you advise me to install Postmarket OS, LineageOS, something else?

curbstickle@anarchist.nexus on 21 Jul 18:15 collapse

PMOS is probably broken for it, so I’d probably lean toward lineageos.

Tango@piefed.ca on 21 Jul 18:28 collapse

I’ll give that a try, thanks!

lemmyvore@feddit.nl on 21 Jul 13:31 next collapse

I never understood why they don’t support the subsonic protocol.

I mean… you might as well ask why the DLNA plugin has been broken for years. Or why they don’t add a custom HTTP header to the client app so people can lock access in their reverse proxy.

As usual it’s a mix of not enough developer manpower and “I don’t use that so it’s not a priority” i.e. the whimsies of FOSS.

brickfrog@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 21 Jul 14:46 collapse

Jelllyfin + Subfin (github.com/williamkray/subfin-plugin) works well, I’ve been using it with the OpenSubsonic Android apps listed in www.navidrome.org/apps/?platform=android&api=open… without issue. e.g. Substreamer, Tempus, Airdrome, etc. all work fine with Jellyfin + Subfin.

I’m guessing you’re not on Android or iOS since Jellyfin has apps on those platforms - but you should be able to use any Subsonic/OpenSubsonic app once set up with the plugin.

A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip on 21 Jul 14:59 collapse

Thanks, it’s good to know that this exists as a plugin.

TL; DR all the oldest members who’ve already not really been contributing because they’ve moved on in their lives have officially handed the reins to the people actually doing the work.

Chivera@lemmy.world on 21 Jul 13:39 next collapse

Thank you.

femtek@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 21 Jul 13:39 collapse

Glad to hear, the ones doing the work now will get more recognition and the one leaving can do more of what they want. Hopefully they had a good handoff.

What is o7?

tinsuke@lemmy.world on 21 Jul 15:04 next collapse

Looks like someone bidding farewell via a military salute? 🫡 o7

lka1988@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 21 Jul 15:24 next collapse

It’s a salute. o is the head, 7 is the arm and hand.
