missing geo location in image/album sharing of immich

Images uploaded to immich via the web miss the geo location. Is that a feature or a bug?

Edit: I created an album, created a shared link, and used that link to upload images. It does not uplaod geo location for me. Default settings, including showing metadata.

When you say web, can you give an example of how you tried? I ask because I was building an app last year to upload images, and on android the native image chooser deliberately strips some meta data, location being the main one. I had to use a generic file uploader instead to work around it.

Edit: I should clarify this was Android but uploading via mobile browser

I clarified my post. Thx for sharing your experience. I feel dumb for having used immich with friends a couple of times to collect images and now only my images have geo locations (because the photos were uploaded via the app, not web)

Edit:

Does that mean that it’s not immich’s fault but androids? Only androids (5 different ones) were uploading so far.

Interesting.

Can you please test, upload from phone and upload from desktop?

If the phone has this problem, see if there’s the mobile, or desktop version of the web app creating the issue.

I am inclined to think that Android may strip some of the information? Not sure.

Firefox on linux with a gnome/gtk file picker uploaded the geo location.

Meaning, this bad behavior will stay for the next years as a feature. I’ll look into cloud storages again for sharing images. I hope that works.
