Who is enjoying good success with Mealie's Meal planner? Does anyone have advice on how to tighten up the rules? I don't quite have as many queries as the Kodi or navidrome smart playlist function to play with. (demo.mealie.io)

I am using home assistant as the trigger, telling mealie to add random meal plans for X amount of days. One for a dinner and two sides.

All that is left is to have mealie’s rules set up a little better, or perhaps tag food in new ways i haven’t thought of yet.

either way, who else out there is enjoying having mealie take some decision paralysis off their hands?

I have been using it! With enough variety of recipes it is pretty slick!

Not always perfect, but gives us enough of an opinion to motivate us to choose something more appetizing!

yeah that certainly is one thing, i try to add every recipe i can think of, and any new ones that i come across but it’s like heck, do i really eat so few meal varieties?!

I collect recipes that are out of my wheelhouse or a variant of what I already consume because I like trying new things. As far as mass importing recipes, I’d get too overwhelmed and probably not use 3/4 of them. I also add my own variations on a theme. Go out to the garden, pick some fresh herbs, and veggies to accompany said dish. One of my go to, quick eggplant sides is to take slices of eggplant, egg wash and planko, a layer of parm, slices of tomatoes on top the eggplant, more parm, moz, fresh cracked sea salt and pepper corn, a spritz of evoo, and bake in the oven. So good!

I haven’t tried the meal planner side of things yet but this has been a great app for managing my favorite recipes.

So far we’ve just been using it manually to plan meals and go shopping, I hadn’t thought about having it automatically choose meals.

Only using Mealie as a recipe manager at the moment. Haven’t used the meal planner function. Sounds interesting though and might give it a try.

I mostly use it to track (and tweak) recipes that are safe for me with my food allergies, and from that perspective its great. Despite having all kinds of options to OCR recipes, import them, whatever, my wife just… hasn’t bothered.

So I haven’t really used the meal planner yet, I need to get her using it more often :)

I will try to contribute to your wiki!

this looks cool!

one thing i had found a while back was a way to translate the shopping list into a kroger cart

man wouldn’t that save just a bit of time!

translate the shopping list into a kroger cart

I’ve always had this idea for an app. Most all major grocery stores publish their sales online. I’ve always thought it would be cool if you could have an app that imported these published sales, matched that up with your grocery list, and even gave you a route from store to store so you could efficiently shop. I’m pretty sure my lady friend isn’t the only person that shops multiple stores based on good sales.
