It’s got good bones.

Hawke@lemmy.world on 26 Feb 22:12 next collapse

TIE fighters don’t have hyperdrives though.

oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 26 Feb 22:34 next collapse

I think First Order Special Forces TIEs do

megopie@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 27 Feb 14:38 collapse

Sorry, I think you hallucinated something there. There is no first order. Episode 7? Legends cannon? What are you talking about?

scarabic@lemmy.world on 26 Feb 22:41 next collapse

No, it’s a short range fighter.

saltnotsugar@lemmy.world on 27 Feb 01:20 collapse

Must have gotten lost. Apart of a convoy or something.

lividweasel@lemmy.world on 27 Feb 03:04 collapse

It was alone, so it was certainly apart

just2look@lemmy.zip on 26 Feb 23:03 next collapse

The TIE Advanced did. Wrong wing shape for that though.

OwOarchist@pawb.social on 26 Feb 23:13 next collapse

So this one is basically already complete. What a bargain!

ThisOne@lemmy.world on 26 Feb 23:38 next collapse

Twin Ion Engine. There’s no hyperdrive in there…

megopie@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 27 Feb 14:39 collapse

If they did then disgruntled pilots might get ideas and not return to the star destroyer. Can’t have that, can we?

saltnotsugar@lemmy.world on 26 Feb 22:30 next collapse

50,000 credits. I know what I got.

ChicoSuave@lemmy.world on 27 Feb 01:39 next collapse

50,000‽ I can buy a whole new starship for that!

gigastasio@sh.itjust.works on 27 Feb 02:12 collapse

But who’s gonna fly it? You???

threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works on 27 Feb 04:43 collapse

You bet I could! I’m not such a bad pilot myself. C’mon, we don’t have to sit here and—

jubilationtcornpone@sh.itjust.works on 27 Feb 02:28 collapse

“Perfect restore candidate” Third pictures is of completely rotted out floorboard.

canadian_commie@lemmy.world on 27 Feb 00:26 next collapse

Best I can do is 150.

chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 27 Feb 01:53 next collapse

Wait, are they called tie fighters because they look sort of like bow ties

gigastasio@sh.itjust.works on 27 Feb 02:10 collapse

TIE is the acronym for Twin Ion Engine.

I mean the bow tie thing kinda works too, but yeah.

egrets@lemmy.world on 27 Feb 09:36 collapse

When Lucas first sketched one out to give early collaborators a sense of what he wanted to make, he wrote “TIE” next to it without knowing what it would stand for (or so the story goes). Crew speculated that he’d already thought it looked a little like a bow tie and he hadn’t found the right backronym yet; apparently concept artist Joe Johnston proposed “twin ion engine”.

gigastasio@sh.itjust.works on 27 Feb 14:04 collapse

After all, what is Star Wars if not an endless parade of retcons?

kivihiili@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 27 Feb 03:05 next collapse

okay now i cant unsee how TIE fighters look like modified and weaponized cable spools, initially only used for construction purposes. my head canon is that they were tough, and plentiful in used quantity for relatively cheap, and became pretty much the intergalactic version of those technicals that the taliban use.

jokes aside though, i’m not too familiar with these vehicles. like would like a motor rebuild be decently feasible or is this like the starfighter version of a used mercedes?

CADmonkey@lemmy.world on 27 Feb 16:49 next collapse

If starfighters work like aircraft, an engine swap should be easy and normal.

Buddahriffic@lemmy.world on 27 Feb 19:39 collapse

That might literally be their origin. Like the movie props that became well known as the TIE fighter shape, not their in universe origin.

JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world on 27 Feb 05:20 next collapse

Low res panjandrum (or however those are spelt)

Wilco@lemmy.zip on 27 Feb 14:26 next collapse

Is this still available?

Ceruleum@lemmy.wtf on 27 Feb 17:10 collapse

Needs windows too, otherwise there isn’t anything to see true.
